Rail of Peace Travelling Project -Macedonia and SE Europe

From 22 July - 8 August the Center for Intercultural Dialogue in Macedonia will organise the first Balkan travelling workcamp "Rail of Peace 2008" for young people. The traveling workcamp is organized in the framework of the SCI SAVA Group which aims to further develop cooperation between organisations in South East Europe which in practice will be seen throughout the traveling workcamp. The projects will visit take part in Peace Education workshops and then travel to various workcamp projects in Macedonia and nearby countries.

Hardworking and motivated volunteers, aged 18-35 years are needed to join the project. More details - ivp@vsi.ie

New Project in Palestine 3-17 August

SCI-Belgium has organised a special volunteer project together with Project Hope and the Dar Al Fonon Centre in Nablus, Palestine. We are now looking for 8-10 motivated and experienced volunteers from SCI branches to take part in this special project.

From August 3-17, 2008, International and local volunteers will take part in a summer camp for children (9 to 13 years old) from the old Askar camp and other refugee camps. Dar Al-Fonon Center, in partnership with Project Hope, will organise and host the summer workcamp.

International volunteers will prepare and implement different activities for the children. Each afternoon, several workshops will be held simultaneously including drama, music, circus, educational games, sports, painting and drawing. Each morning, international volunteers will attend field trips in Nablus and participate in workshops that teach Palestinian culture and promote inter-cultural dialogue. Additionally, several trips around the West Bank are planned.

Volunteer Skills Needed: a strong command of English; any experience and passion for teaching arts and/or drama.

Voluntary Service International (VSI) is the Irish branch of Service Civil International, a worldwide peace movement started in 1920 in the aftermath of the First World War. VSI was founded in 1965 after several projects in the late '50s. Since then VSI has undertaken a wide variety of voluntary and community work throughout Ireland and has sent thousands of volunteers to similar projects in over 50 countries worldwide.
